We're still here

Well things are great here in Provo, we just haven't been posting about it. First off I passed the PANCE, therefore I am certified as a PA. So now I can put on my resume Amber Poyer MS, PA-C. I think people can refer to me now as Amber PA-C :) I started a job last week in SLC. So the nerves of the first day were not just the typical concerns about the job, but also the commute. I got a bus pass and was taking the express, but apparently after a week of riding I was informed that I need the premium pass(ie $100 more a month) in order to ride the express. So this week I'll be trying a different bus and trax to get to work. Anyways, if you have a good book it is no big deal. This week I read Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, one of the best books I have read in ages. I actually hated getting of the bus, because that meant I had to quit reading and go to work.
Back to the acutal job. I unfortunately have had a hard time finding a job as a PA. Interviews typically involved their five year plan for me, or looking for someone to work with until they retire in 20 years. Which to be honest, when Jon gets done with school I have no idea where we will be living, but here in Provo is probably a slim chance. So that in addition to my lack of experience has made the job search particularly hard. I am working with an electronic medical records company in conjunction with Community Health Centers including Wasatch Homeless Health Care at the Fourth Street Clinic in SLC, hence our proximity to Pioneer Park. But this job shows promise and I have high hopes for it to be a good experience. I am paid on a grant for one year, which I like, no long term strings attached unless I desire it at the end.
Jon is keeping busy with school. He was grateful to get his accounting class over with, it was a 1st block class. His midterms are done with, but the projects keep coming. He went to Minnesota to an intership fair that proved to be good experience, but unfruitful as far as interships.
He also got the great news that he can start running again from his surgeon. No basketball for some time, but the addition of running again as been exciting and a great stress reliever. Too bad the weather will turn cold soon.
We are enjoying Provo and the awesome fall weather. We have a nice cozy apartment that I had lots of time to decorate etc before I started work. I'll have to get some pictures of my projects on here. We've enjoyed the farmers market on Center every weekend and sad that it is over until next year. We love our ward, it is different than we had expected of Provo, but so much more. We are learning to truly love people and what that gospel really means. The 14-18 y/o Sunday School keeps us busy and challenged each week, it is great to be team teachers. Sunday school is one of my favorite callings because I get to study the lessons and I still get to go to Relief Society.
Well that is enough from me. Here are some pictures from my trip to Houston to visit my parents.

My mom flew back from Houston with me for my cousin's wedding. Here she is with some of her brothers and sisters. Here is Willie and Alicia, what a fun wedding and reception.
This is my sister in law Brittney's sister Shaylee who also got married while my mom was here.

We got to see Sterling, Brittney and Kade. However, I only got a picture with Kade.

We went to married BYU homecoming.

Getting our pumpkin carving on.
This was a fun get together with my friends from freshman year. Such great girls. It was great to see them.
I have had alot of time to spend with my long time friend Alfreda, she is such a fun girl and I love hanging out with her.
After my first day of work, we went to the Jazz game. Can't be free tickets, but maybe you can because we were way at the top of the nosebleeds. Jon was really cheering for Houston, particularly Shane Battier, his old friend.

Random thought

I was searching through old pics and I came across this one from when Jon and I were dating. And this is why I cut Jon's hair every other week. This pic has also made me realized I need to go back to Patrick, the guy who used to cut my hair when I lived in Provo, I can't believe how curly it was.
Also for Random thought, where is my side bar with my friends and cute stuff like that? At the bottom of the page, how or why are they there, I don't know but it really annoys me.
And as far as blog etiquette goes, when someone asks you a question in the comments section do you respond by making a comment on your page or theirs. Just wondering, I don't really ignore people and I love comments, I just don't know where to respond.

These Shoes

I received these cleats last summer in the mail from Brittney when I was laid up with this.

Yeah, that darn broken ankle, I remember laughing when they arrived. Well I donned them for the first time, I am back to intermurals again. I am playing soccer again, however not coed, just women. I think they are less likely to kick me so hard it breaks a bone. I am also playing flag football. I am playing with the MBA wives, we have alot of fun. Somehow in the process of running, etc. I broke both big toenails at the base, needless to say I broke out my PA skills to evacuate my subungual hematomas ie the blood beneath the nail. Eventually I'll probably loose both nails, but such is my luck with these shoes. Probably more info than anyone wants to know, but to me its funny. One week down and no major injuries, I plan to keep it that way.

We also went to the Indian Fest two weeks ago. Quite frankly I wouldn't recommend it, it was boring. But here are a few pictures anyways.

Lake Tahoe

Well we made it back to Tahoe for Labor Day again this year. This would be year five for Jon and I. We meet up with Jon's Uncle Mike and Aunt Karen who have graciously hosted us everytime. They bring up their RV and we sleep in tents and eat RV cooked meals which alot of times beat my homecooked meals. This year we brought Mike and Crystal with us. Eric, Sharee, Joe, and Lori met us up there. It was alot of fun hiking and swimming. Those of you up for year 6 put it on your calendar Labor Day 2010 and bring your sleeping bag.

This is the whole crew. Joe, Lori, Mike, Crystal, Sharee, Eric, me, and Jon

That's my baywatch babe

Lori and I tried really hard to learn to skip rocks, it wasn't all that pretty.

This is one of our favorite swimming spots, isn't it gorgeous. The water was low this year and the waves were ferocious.

Delta

Jon finished up orientation at school so we took the weekend to go to Delta and see my Aunt Martha's Family. My cousin David recently returned from a mission in Florida and my cousin Phil was blessing his new baby. So it was the perfect weekend to go to Delta. Not only does my Aunt and her family live there, but my Grandma Foy grew up in Leamington which is right next to Delta. So I took Jon on a family history tour that my Grandma took me on often growing up. We drove by her childhood home, which is still in great shape. I can remember sleeping over there, riding horses, playing in the river and eating cookies for breakfast. Then we drove over to Oak City which is where the Finlinson family originated from, so we drove by the house my grandma was born in and the home my Great Great Grandfather Lyman built. Then we went to the cemetery. Yes I took my husband to see my family gravesites. But I can hardly remember ever going to Oak City without stopping at the cemetery. It was a great family history lesson for Jon, almost got him excited about doing his geneology. I think my grandma would have been proud that I knew my Finlinson and Lyman family line and could connect them together correctly.
It was great to stay with my Aunt Martha and spend time with my cousins. We got to go up Oak City Canyon for a dutch oven dinner. So we got feed well then and then at the luncheon on Sunday. David and Phil did a great job. It got me thinking about Alex alot and I am sure proud of him for going on a mission, but I can't wait until he gets back next summer.
Most of the pictures are from the Mt. Nebo Scenic loop we took to south to Nephi. We got to see alot of beautiful country full of wild sunflowers. We are enjoying living in the mountains.

First Day of School

Yes, Jon joined all those going back to school this year. He started the MBA program last week. This has been quite the change for us, he being the student, me not being the student. But he is going to do great and I am proud of him. I can get used to having the nicely dressed business professional around, he is so handsome.

Provo

We made it to Utah with two cars and a big Uhaul of stuff. On the way we stopped in Panguitch and stayed the night. My sister and cousins put on a nice bridal shower for Crystal, so that was fun to attend. We spent the evening at the cabin and then continued on our way the next day to Provo. Jon left early and by the time I got to our new apartment he had unloaded all our stuff, by himself. We miss our place in Arizona, but we are getting settled. There is a train track immediately outsided our bedroom window, and at night it sounds like that train is coming right through our apartment. But we'll get used to it, right? Our ward is also very different than we had expected, there are 10+ service missionary couples, due to the challenges etc. in our area. So we have a feeling we will be put right to work, which is a good thing. We feel like we are going to learn alot while we are here. Jon is going to start school tomorrow, he is nervous, but he will do great. Just this time around he will actually have to study in school, instead of playing alot of basketball. I will also be studying for my board exam, so I will go to school with Jon everyday and hit the books at my old BYU library study spot.

For my graduation mine and Jon's parents came to Arizona. We had alot of fun despite all the packing. The past few days it has been nice spending time with my family that was here for Crystal's wedding. She had a beautiful sealing and great dinner/reception afterwards at the Lion House garden. We were so glad that it only rained in the morning and turned into a beautiful day. She was a gorgeous bride. It will be fun to spend time with Crystal and Mike while they are still here in Provo.
At the Ranch, this is Danielle and Austin's favorite face for pictures.Jon and I stayed at Hotel Monaco after we got married in SLC. Also Jon doesn't typically where Hawaiian shirts however that was the theme of the wedding so he wore one to dinner.Dinner at Buca di Peppo with Danielle and Luke. The dresses were very cute and made for fun pictures.

Change is a coming

Well I saw my last patient as a student this past Thursday. I came home noise makers and those poppers with streamers as Jon helped me celebrate my last day. I will be graduating this Saturday with my Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. Pretty crazy that my two years are up and my formal education is finished although I have so much to learn. Along with graduating we are moving to Provo, Utah for Jon to start the MBA program in two weeks. I'll take my boards the beginning of September and the job hunt will commence. We have loved living in Arizona, but I guess it is time for us to move on to the next adventure. It the midst of our move Crystal is getting married to Mike Weber, so we are excited for that all the festivities that go along with it.This my lastest hair do, I love it curly and short, perfect for hot Arizona summers.
For our graduation party we went to the F1 Race Speedway, it was so fun.
This is my favorite room or "area" in our apartment. I hope I have a house some day with built in shelving, I love it.
