Welcoming the New Year

Happy 2010 to one and all.  Hopefully, you are enjoying the new year as much as we are here in snowy Utah!
Christmas did not disappoint once again this year.  Amber got off a bit earlier than anticipated so we drove across the fruited plains to spend time in Omaha with both families.  You read that correctly, both families.  The Foy's, Glasgow's, and Weber's stayed at the Glasgow hall and we slept at the Poyer's.  It was a great time spent relaxing, laughing, and playing.  Omaha was hit super hard by some amazing snow storms and so a lot of time was spent couped up inside as the roads were impassable and conditions too hazardous to venture outdoors.  Thank goodness for kith and kin to make the cramped confines enjoyable.  It was so nice to see all of the family together in one spot and for so long.  We are excited for Alex to come home this summer so there will be no missing pieces at all.
We are sad that Crystal and Mike moved to Wisconsin, we were assured a visit anytime the laundry pile got to high.  But we are excited for their new adventure, Crystal student teaching and Mike entering the corporate world at Kohls.  We will enjoy having Alex at BYU for the fall, it is always nice to have family nearby.
A break in the weather allowed us to return to Utah without any incident so that Amber could get back to business.  I have to admit, break is such a wonderful thing.  No responsibility, committments, or real distractions...man, was that a good feeling.
Business school is going great.  Jon loves the challenge and loves staying up late to work on assignments.  I think that it is a great means to fight off the coming 3-0 that looms like a spector to his already bald psychy.  I have some great classes right now and am doing some real world consulting projects that make it all the better.  Other than that, all focus is on sleeping through the train that barrels through our bedroom every morning and getting an internship for this summer.
So the holidays brought forth some other exciting news for us.  Amber is happily anticipating the tiny pitter-patter of little feet.  That's right, Jon has been running again and has his first intramural basketball game this Saturday.  Please save the congratulations until afterwards as I am not sure how my knee is going to hold up.  But it is an exciting time for both of us indeed:)
Amber has been traveling like a mad person of late from one corner of the country to another.   She has been traveling the past 6 weeks straight.  From small town Utah to Tampa and Miami Florida.  But it keeps work life exciting to be in all these new places.  This next week she is back to her typical SLC commute.  We hope you all got 2010 off to a good start as well.

This would have been our Christmas Card picture if we would have gotten one out this year.

This is the whole crew gathered on Christmas Eve wearing our crazy hats.  This is a Poyer tradition.

Jon is posing with our makeshift Christmas tree at the Poyers.

Our New Years Day Snow shoeing trip.

We went and visited Jon's Grandma while in Florida.  By the way Jon came for the weekend, I was in Florida for two weeks.

This my good friend from BYU Freshman year Princess.  I really liked Tampa.
This was the best view of Miami from my convertible as I was leaving.  Long story on how I ended up with that car.  Needless to say Miami is not one of my favorite places.

We're still here

Well things are great here in Provo, we just haven't been posting about it. First off I passed the PANCE, therefore I am certified as a PA. So now I can put on my resume Amber Poyer MS, PA-C. I think people can refer to me now as Amber PA-C :) I started a job last week in SLC. So the nerves of the first day were not just the typical concerns about the job, but also the commute. I got a bus pass and was taking the express, but apparently after a week of riding I was informed that I need the premium pass(ie $100 more a month) in order to ride the express. So this week I'll be trying a different bus and trax to get to work. Anyways, if you have a good book it is no big deal. This week I read Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, one of the best books I have read in ages. I actually hated getting of the bus, because that meant I had to quit reading and go to work.
Back to the acutal job. I unfortunately have had a hard time finding a job as a PA. Interviews typically involved their five year plan for me, or looking for someone to work with until they retire in 20 years. Which to be honest, when Jon gets done with school I have no idea where we will be living, but here in Provo is probably a slim chance. So that in addition to my lack of experience has made the job search particularly hard. I am working with an electronic medical records company in conjunction with Community Health Centers including Wasatch Homeless Health Care at the Fourth Street Clinic in SLC, hence our proximity to Pioneer Park. But this job shows promise and I have high hopes for it to be a good experience. I am paid on a grant for one year, which I like, no long term strings attached unless I desire it at the end.
Jon is keeping busy with school. He was grateful to get his accounting class over with, it was a 1st block class. His midterms are done with, but the projects keep coming. He went to Minnesota to an intership fair that proved to be good experience, but unfruitful as far as interships.
He also got the great news that he can start running again from his surgeon. No basketball for some time, but the addition of running again as been exciting and a great stress reliever. Too bad the weather will turn cold soon.
We are enjoying Provo and the awesome fall weather. We have a nice cozy apartment that I had lots of time to decorate etc before I started work. I'll have to get some pictures of my projects on here. We've enjoyed the farmers market on Center every weekend and sad that it is over until next year. We love our ward, it is different than we had expected of Provo, but so much more. We are learning to truly love people and what that gospel really means. The 14-18 y/o Sunday School keeps us busy and challenged each week, it is great to be team teachers. Sunday school is one of my favorite callings because I get to study the lessons and I still get to go to Relief Society.
Well that is enough from me. Here are some pictures from my trip to Houston to visit my parents.

My mom flew back from Houston with me for my cousin's wedding. Here she is with some of her brothers and sisters. Here is Willie and Alicia, what a fun wedding and reception.
This is my sister in law Brittney's sister Shaylee who also got married while my mom was here.

We got to see Sterling, Brittney and Kade. However, I only got a picture with Kade.

We went to married BYU homecoming.

Getting our pumpkin carving on.
This was a fun get together with my friends from freshman year. Such great girls. It was great to see them.
I have had alot of time to spend with my long time friend Alfreda, she is such a fun girl and I love hanging out with her.
After my first day of work, we went to the Jazz game. Can't be free tickets, but maybe you can because we were way at the top of the nosebleeds. Jon was really cheering for Houston, particularly Shane Battier, his old friend.

Random thought

I was searching through old pics and I came across this one from when Jon and I were dating. And this is why I cut Jon's hair every other week. This pic has also made me realized I need to go back to Patrick, the guy who used to cut my hair when I lived in Provo, I can't believe how curly it was.
Also for Random thought, where is my side bar with my friends and cute stuff like that? At the bottom of the page, how or why are they there, I don't know but it really annoys me.
And as far as blog etiquette goes, when someone asks you a question in the comments section do you respond by making a comment on your page or theirs. Just wondering, I don't really ignore people and I love comments, I just don't know where to respond.

These Shoes

I received these cleats last summer in the mail from Brittney when I was laid up with this.

Yeah, that darn broken ankle, I remember laughing when they arrived. Well I donned them for the first time, I am back to intermurals again. I am playing soccer again, however not coed, just women. I think they are less likely to kick me so hard it breaks a bone. I am also playing flag football. I am playing with the MBA wives, we have alot of fun. Somehow in the process of running, etc. I broke both big toenails at the base, needless to say I broke out my PA skills to evacuate my subungual hematomas ie the blood beneath the nail. Eventually I'll probably loose both nails, but such is my luck with these shoes. Probably more info than anyone wants to know, but to me its funny. One week down and no major injuries, I plan to keep it that way.

We also went to the Indian Fest two weeks ago. Quite frankly I wouldn't recommend it, it was boring. But here are a few pictures anyways.

Lake Tahoe

Well we made it back to Tahoe for Labor Day again this year. This would be year five for Jon and I. We meet up with Jon's Uncle Mike and Aunt Karen who have graciously hosted us everytime. They bring up their RV and we sleep in tents and eat RV cooked meals which alot of times beat my homecooked meals. This year we brought Mike and Crystal with us. Eric, Sharee, Joe, and Lori met us up there. It was alot of fun hiking and swimming. Those of you up for year 6 put it on your calendar Labor Day 2010 and bring your sleeping bag.

This is the whole crew. Joe, Lori, Mike, Crystal, Sharee, Eric, me, and Jon

The newly weds.

That's my baywatch babe

Lori and I tried really hard to learn to skip rocks, it wasn't all that pretty.

This is one of our favorite swimming spots, isn't it gorgeous. The water was low this year and the waves were ferocious.
